CSP energy storage technologies such as molten salt storage are still not fully stabilised, and perhaps not fully ready for very large scale commercial applications. Industry standard, scalable molten salt or alternative thermal storage technologies could go a long way in making CSP more attractive as it adds to the main strength of CSP vs. PV - the ability to supply baseload power.
That it has still not matured should indeed be a surprise given that commercialization efforts for molten salt technologies (the most popular among all phase change material tech) has been ongoing for over a decade.
