Leakage of heat pump refrigerants

Leakage in the refrigerant lines can lead to its charge reaching very low levels and resulting in poor performance as the heat pump would not be able to get enough heat from the inside to the coils to defrost them. Leaks can happen owing to reasons such as ice melting on the evaporator coils.

Solutions to significantly minimize or completely eliminate leakages could significantly enhance the perception of a heat pump’s value to the end user.
