Concrete has been the only feasible groundworks option for highways contractors for many years, thanks to its durability, strength and cheap cost.
However, despite the massive production and consumption of concrete around the globe, there has been a lot of speculation about the fact that it is a significant contributor to CO2 emissions.
Different types of waste materials and industrial by-products may be used in road construction as an alternative to standard materials, and many of them can result in significant amounts of savings in CO2 emissions.
