Ternary mixture of molten salts for CSP storage

Current molten salts used in CSP systems are binary salts which freeze at temperatures at or below about 230 °C (depending on the composition of the salt) and hence care must be taken to prevent irreparable damage to heat storage installation.

Ternary salt mixtures have advantages with low melting temperature (131 deg C), reduced risk of freezing, wider operational temperature range and improved durability.
