Two main operational conditions - temperature and stirring - can significantly influence the yield from digesters as well as the resource (especially energy) requirements. Finding the optimum operational conditions inside the fermenters could thus be crucial for the success of many AD-based RNG projects.
Such optimization research efforts are being carried out by many teams operating the fermenters under different operational temperatures and by applying several stirring scenarios, and some of these efforts have shown significant yield increases and energy reductions.
