Decarbonization Avenue : Biorefinery

In fact

Whole crop biorefinery using rice

This is exciting.

Here’s (  https://bit.ly/2XKbUpm) an interesting biorefinery being attempted in the Philippines that tries to makes use of all the byproducts & waste from rice - rice bran, rice husk and rice straw, deriving biodiesel, biofertilizer, biogas, renewable power and ethanol. Right now it appears to be only in its modelling stage, let’s hope it goes commercial!

So that would be:

  • Biogas from rice husk (anaerobic digestion)
  • Biodiesel from rice bran
  • Ethanol from rice straw
  • Power from rice husk and rice straw
  • Biofertilizer from rice husk (byproduct of anaerobic digestion)

Wow! They don't leave anything out, do they?
