Barriers include lack of clear definitions and specifications for the gas to be injected ( in terms of composition/extent of impurities permitted etc.,), resulting in a lack of quality assurance and confidence that the RNG injected into gas pipelines are similar to the fossil natural gas.
High injection tariffs and interconnection costs for renewable natural gas could also inhibit commercial development of RNG.
